Being an expat is fun, and for Anon, sometimes finding a job isn't as beneficial as taking the transition time to start your own business.
Ciarahttp://www.liferesetcoaching.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2553573712479659356.post-88756913091908394272013-08-15T18:28:35.939-05:002013-08-15T18:28:35.939-05:00Dear Anon,

Also if you have federal student loans you can apply for the income based repayment plan. So your payments can be quite low as you pay based on what you earn. There are tons of expats in South Korea paying OFF students loans. It's possible and doable. The world is your oyster. As the author suggests do your homework. All will be fine. Take one step at a time and have a positive attitude. I'm currently contemplat...Thanks for this post! I'm currently contemplating a possible move overseas, but I'm worried that I won't be able to make ends meet if I were to do so. Unfortunately I have student loans that will go into repayment if I were to stop going to school...and I owe A LOT!! The monthly payment would be substantial and from what I hear, finding work overseas isn't the easiest thing in the world, let alone work that pays well or that is comparable to my American salary (which isn't much either, sadly! LOL!). And OF COURSE I want to go to Europe, and Italy in particular, where the cost of living is high and apparently it's hard to get a job as a non-European person! =) I'm actually looking for a new job, which is partly what prompted me to look at other possibilities. I hate to let my debt load stop me, but it's hard to ignore.

I've been looking at TESOL-type programs and reading online about teaching English and earning a living overseas, but it seems like more of a live-to-teach than teach-to-live situation, aka, your love for teaching outweighs it being a lucrative business decision. I've found so many people online talking about how they love teaching so much that they would gladly do it in the middle of a bog if they had to...I'm like, anyone do it just for the money, or to go somewhere else for awhile?? LOL! I guess I'd ideally like to find a company where I could transfer overseas. The idea of just having a contract term is a bit unsettling to me. My dad was in the Air Force and I have a travel bug for a mom who is now retired overseas as well, so traveling abroad isn't foreign to me, but actually living abroad as an adult on my own would be quite the leap! I'm glad that I found this blog as I'm particularly interested in the experiences of expat women of color. Sighhhhh. Guess I'll keep on applying for jobs & continue weighing my options....kudos to you for your courage! =)

NikkiAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
